Fourah Bay College (FBC)

Located in Mount Aureol, Freetown, Fourah Bay College is the oldest Western-style university in Sub-Saharan Africa, having been founded on February 18, 1827, by the Church Missionary Society. It earned Freetown the nickname “Athens of West Africa” due to its historical significance as an educational center in the region. Institute of Public  Administration and Management (IPAM)

Established in 1980, IPAM serves as the University’s center for education in business, finance, public administration, and information technology. It originated from the Civil Service Training College and was developed following World Bank suggestions to enhance public-sector education. IPAM attracts students and professionals from both the government and private sectors, offering diplomas, undergraduate, and postgraduate degrees to improve administrative and managerial skills in Sierra Leone.
